System \ Azure Administrator


The Azure Administrator is responsible for the planning, implementation, management, and maintenance of Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure and services. This role involves deploying and managing virtual machines, configuring networking, monitoring system performance, ensuring security and compliance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize cloud operations.


Key Responsibilities:

1.   Infrastructure Deployment and Management:

  • Provision, configure, and manage virtual machines, storage resources, and other Azure services.
  • Create and manage virtual networks, subnets, and network security groups.
  • Implement and maintain resource groups, availability sets, and load balancers.
  • Set up and manage Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) services, including user accounts and access management.

2.   Networking and Security:

  • Configure and monitor network security groups to control traffic flow and ensure security.
  • Implement and manage Azure Firewall and Virtual Network Gateways for secure connectivity.
  • Monitor and manage Azure Security Center to ensure compliance and detect security threats.
  • Configure identity and access management using Azure AD, including roles and permissions.

3.   Monitoring and Performance Optimization:

  • Monitor Azure resources using Azure Monitor and other relevant tools.
  • Analyze performance metrics and troubleshoot performance issues to ensure optimal system operation.
  • Scale resources up or down as needed to meet performance and capacity requirements.

4.   Backup and Disaster Recovery:

  • Implement backup and recovery strategies for Azure resources, including virtual machines and databases.
  • Set up and manage Azure Site Recovery for disaster recovery scenarios.

5.    Automation and Scripting:

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using tools like PowerShell, Azure CLI, or ARM templates.
  • Automate resource provisioning, configuration management, and maintenance tasks.

6.   Collaboration and Documentation:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers and IT operations, to understand requirements and optimize cloud solutions.
  • Document deployment processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.

7.   Upgrades and Patch Management:

  • Manage and apply updates, patches, and security fixes to Azure resources.
  • Ensure resources are up-to-date with the latest features and improvements.

8.   Compliance and Governance:

  • Implement and enforce compliance policies and industry standards within the Azure environment.
  • Monitor and manage cost controls to optimize resource usage and spending.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving Azure services-related issues
  • Configuring Azure services to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Designing and managing swap space in the cloud environment
  • Maintaining azure profiles and subscriptions
  • Setting up private and public cloud environments
  • Balancing and deploying workloads 
  • Implementing and managing cost-effective cloud systems
  • Analyze service incidents and problems, identify risks, provide recommendations, and implement solutions.
  • Take ownership of all assigned tickets and drive to resolution, researching and escalating to vendor as necessary
  • Enforce and follow Compugen ITSM policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and will require after hours work for planned changes and incident resolution and provide level support to the IT Operations team.

Skills and qualifications, you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Microsoft Azure certifications such as AZ-104 (Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate) or higher.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and Azure services.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell, Azure CLI, and scripting for automation.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and security best practices.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools for Azure environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience managing a virtual server environment both on prem and in the cloud.
  • Superior organization skills and a strong attention to detail
  • Excellent technical design and documentation skills 
  • A willingness to learn new technologies while working in a fast-changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences.
  • Be effective at managing multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, meeting deadlines and working well under pressure, along with proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • A strong understanding of ITIL practices
  • Excellent customer service skills and a strong ability to diffuse tense customer situations and project a positive, confident outlook. 
  • Ability to work outside of normal working hours on an emergency or pre-scheduled basis.
