Data Scientist

$75,552.53 - $86,175.83 annually

 

In this exciting role, you will be the expert data scientist for the Clean Transportation Branch for large scale, complex projects. Clean Transportation Branch wide programs/and or projects which are significant in terms of government priorities and have unique requirements. You will apply expert advice and knowledge pertaining to all overarching data science to unique business scenarios. You will be expected to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position with minimum supervision, while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. Additionally, you must exercise initiative, tact and diplomacy in undertaking a wide variety of responsibilities.


Qualifications for this role include:


  • A Master’s Degree in a related field and 2 years of related experience. 
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 3 years of related experience; OR
  • A Diploma in a related field and 5 years of related experience.


Related Education fields may include Data Science, Computer Science, GIS, statistics, mathematics, or other relevant specialty education as designated by program requirements.

 

Related experience includes:


  • Experience at leveraging structured and unstructured data sources to conduct quantitative analysis.
  • Experience determining appropriate use of various problem structuring methods and statistical methods for sampling, distribution assessment, bias and error.
  • Familiarity with machine learning, clustering and classification techniques to analyze diverse sources of data.
  • Experience creating and delivering executive-level presentations for the purpose of decision making.
  • Willing to keep up to date with cutting-edge techniques in machine-learning and big data analytics and find ways to advance the organization’s capabilities in analytics.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job.
  • Experience using common data science languages (e.g. SQL, R, Python) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Metabase).
