Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

The Director of Insights, Analytics and AI is accountable for defining and implementing the data and analytics strategy, managing data as a strategic asset with a focus on insights, advanced analytics, and machine learning/AI and nurturing a data and analytics driven culture.

 

This role is a strategic advisor to senior Payments executives with a focus on improving business outcomes by applying data insights, advanced analytics, and machine learning/AI. This role is directly accountable for delivering against annual strategic objectives and KPIs Critical outcomes include realizing internal and external customer driven use cases, establish and enforce data and analytics governance, and ensure privacy, security and quality of data.

 

What will I be doing?

 

  • Deploys a participative leadership style that will engage key stakeholders, both internally and leadership in partner transit agencies to understand business requirements, deliver insights, and drive innovation.
  • Defines the strategy and roadmap for the application and governance of data, analytics and AI for PRESTO Payments.
  • Defines research strategic vision and operational roadmap for data and analytics governance, community of practice, business intelligence reporting, application of analytics and machine learning/AI, enable a customer driven culture, upskilling internal talent, and stakeholder management.
  • Define and develop Payments data and analytics governance framework, policies and standards. This includes setting the vision and strategy for managing data as a strategic asset.
  • Direct the analysis of complex data sets to uncover insights that inform strategic decisions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of the data across the organization.
  • Ensuring compliance with the government and industry data protection regulations and industry standards.
  • Provides business data architecture oversight. Collaborating with IT and data management teams to define and enforce data architecture standards and practices that support the organizations data governance policies.
  • Design and implement repeatable and scalable process structures and reporting mechanisms to effectively run a large portfolio of work across vendors, partners, and internal clients.
  • Accountable for the prudent management of the data and analytics annual budget and ensuring outcomes that deliver value for money.
  • Leads the delivery of analytics projects and incorporates data and analytics across all PRESTO initiatives. Provides portfolio, projects governance and status.
  • Leads and directs vendors of record (VORs), provides investment & direction, Scope of Work identification & feedback, and plans course corrections to deliver initiatives.

 

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?


  • Degree in a relevant field such as Social Science, Business, Marketing, Communications, or related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated progressive & proven experience leading data, insights and analytics teams. Including, demonstrated experience managing a team.
  • Strong executive presence and superior communication and briefing skills.
  • Experience building, explaining, and operating advanced analytics models in Python and some practical experience with LLMs, OpenAI/GenAI.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in statistics, customer experience and machine learning modeling techniques.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft’s Azure business intelligence and machine learning platforms and tools.
