What you would be doing:

Reporting to the Director of Product Development, the Engineering Manager will be leading, inspiring, and growing the engineering team at Caframo. This individual will be responsible for product improvement and development by satisfying the end-user’s unmet needs while using deep insights and outstanding innovation. You will be working closely with other departments to create and develop high-quality products for a worldwide customer base, in consumer and laboratory markets.


Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Team – Lead, coach and build a diverse, inclusive, high-performing team where all team members can do their best work. Manage the engineering team by ensuring their health and safety, conducting on-going performance development reviews, ensuring that each person has an individual annual training and development plan, and developing and administering human resources policies and procedures.

Management Team – Be an active member by developing strategy for your department, maintaining a current knowledge of regulatory issues, industry standards and trends, developing quarterly and annual goals, and demonstrating leadership in following company policy and procedure.

Collaboration – Work in collaboration with the product management group; design and develop new products and improvements to existing products by managing the engineering resources. Maximize design for manufacturing by consulting with the production team. Consult with Supply Chain/Sourcing to optimize Bill of Materials (BOM) and product cost.

Product Development – Manage product development projects through to completion and ensure a successful hand over to the order fulfilment process. Monitor and coordinate schedules for development and product launch. Manage cost targets for non-recurring engineering (NRE) and unit costs. Identify and obtain government funding, tax credits, and other support for new product development.

Process Management – Manage the Engineering Change Process to improve design of existing products for quality, manufacturability, cost, and features. Manage the Engineering Testing Process for new and existing products. Provide input and guidance with the development of quality standards including test methods for products, services, and processes. Ensure that all products and processes comply with CSA, UL, CE and requirements from other regulatory agencies.


Who you are:

  • Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Degree.
  • Master’s Degree in related field is desirable, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in managing an engineering team.
  • Ability to effectively manage and develop a staff of 10 - 12 employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, professional, and technical communications.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Skilled in technical research.
  • Project management experience.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Strong computer skills with intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Desire to learn, adapt and accept new challenges in a product development and manufacturing environment with an outlook that challenges present opportunities.
  • Professional Engineer status considered an asset.
