Why is this role important?

CBC/Radio-Canada is the largest broadcaster in Canada and this team is at the very heart of its streaming experience. The AV Platform team is responsible for building, maintaining and supporting the workflows that transport CBC and Radio-Canada’s production from our studios across Canada to Canadians’ devices, offering the best online streaming experience.

The team is currently building a new tool that aims to centralize all of CBC/Radio-Canada’s streams, connecting the different parts of our broadcast infrastructure to offer a fully integrated experience to our internal users. This software will allow content producers to easily program their streams and our broadcast operators to seamlessly put them online on all of CBC/Radio-Canada’s platforms and social media. This application relies heavily on APIs from different vendors.

We are hiring a Full Stack Developer, Software Engineering You will use the latest tools as well as our proprietary technologies, working on an application that will facilitate video streaming for our audience and our internal teams. Working in collaboration with full-stack developers, UX experts, QA Automation Developers, and a team of content producers and broadcast operators, you will step up to the challenge of integrating our systems with this new application. You will complete the work for live streaming of the Olympics while expanding the functionalities for English and French services. You will be working on an application that will be used across the entire organization. 

Video streaming is front and centre of our digital strategy. You will make an impact on our ability to offer Canadians the best streaming experience while making life easier for internal teams.

How you will make an impact :


  • You will help deliver news, entertainment and sports content to millions of Canadians by building an application that delivers audio and video content through various proprietary and social media platforms. 
  • You will create the UI workflow for end-users; build APIs, and connect all of the various broadcast tools to the backend of this application.
  • You will support and collaborate with teams working to keep Canadians informed and contributing to develop Canada’s culture.
  • You will learn the latest technology from experts in the field and have a chance to share your expertise with your team members. 

What you could bring to our team: 


  • The education and experience. You have a diploma or degree in Computer Science or a related field. You have 3+ years of professional experience, working on the frontend and backend technologies with emphasis on microservice architecture; and strong debugging skills with experience in TDD or other forms of automated testing approaches.
  • The tools - and the desire to learn. You are highly proficient with Python, Javascript/Typescript, and VueJS or ReactJS. You are eager to learn new tools specific to video streaming and broadcast technologies. 
  • The communication skills. You know how to listen and relay empathy and understanding for diverse perspectives. Your powers of observation help you understand your audience and communicate with the right level of detail.
  • The collaborative approach. You thrive in a team-focused environment. You have an understanding of Agile methodology and you are dedicated to applying it in a real-word environment.
  • The bonus skills. You may have exposure to or experience with:
  • REST API design.
  • NoSQL database.
  • Flask.
  • Git.
  • Vuetify.
  • WebSockets.
  • Firebase.
