Intermediate Front-End Angular Developer

Calgary, AB

Does the thought of watching code you wrote help manage millions of dollars across global financial markets fill you with nervous excitement? Are you envisioning the interactive dashboards you would build to monitor strategy performance? Have you looked at the high fees and mediocre returns in your mutual fund holdings and thought “I could do better for people?”

If so, we want to add your talent and passion to ours. Our in-house software team is responsible for developing the automated systems that enable us to build, deploy, and monitor quantitative investment strategies across global markets, and we’re growing!

What You’ll Work On

We are breaking new ground in the investment management industry, and no two days are the same. You will leverage Angular to help bring the company’s vision to life, working on projects such as:

  • An intuitive and dynamic platform that embodies our views on custom portfolio construction and analytics
  • Beautiful charts and visualizations for communicating strategy performance and market insights
  • A content delivery experience to communicate original research via interactive, data driven whitepapers

We embrace a cloud native service-oriented architecture, managing cross-platform services with a mantra of “choose the right tool for the job”. Our Angular experiences integrate with a backend built on the following core stack: C#, .NET Core, python, SQL Server, MongoDB, Docker, and Azure.

Core Responsibilities

  • Be an integral driver in the creation of new screens & features in Angular, taking ownership from design through to implementation
  • Create responsive and attractive data visualizations to communicate our portfolio performance and market views to internal and external clients, using libraries such as Highcharts and D3.js.
  • Maintain and enhance existing products
  • Demonstrate a commitment to unit testing, code reviews, CI/CD, and other best practices
  • Provide feedback and design suggestions to senior developers

Recommended Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional development experience with single page application web frameworks, and at least 1 year with Angular.
  • SOLID *ahem* understanding of TypeScript and Reactive programming principles with RxJS
  • Experience integrating front-end experiences with RESTful API frameworks
  • A good eye for clean and effective user interfaces, focusing on the user experience
  • Comfort working in cloud-based environments that leverage Git source control management and CI/CD
  • Strong interest in portfolio management and finance
  • Undergraduate degree in computer science, software engineering, or related discipline

The following would be considered assets:

  • Experience with Angular Material
  • Familiarity with global state management libraries, such as NgRx or Akita
  • Full-stack development experience (C#/.NET, Python, APIs, Databases, etc.)
  • CFA Charterholder, or enrolled in CFA program.
  • Completion of Canadian Securities Course, or other CSI courses.

We recognize that everyone’s background is different. These are recommendations, so if you’ve got what it takes, don’t let one or two missing points dissuade you from applying.

Our Values and Culture

  • We believe in a culture of empowerment. You will have direction and autonomy in your work and a consistent feedback cycle of support
  • We invest for the long term, in markets and in our people. You won’t be a commodity, and in exchange we ask for conscientiousness in your work
  • We believe great problem solving takes time and multiple iterations
