Lead Data Strategist

$82,578.37 - $94,300.04 annually plus $313.36 - $357.84 bi-weekly Temporary Market Adjustment


British Columbia’s Natural Resource Ministries (NRM) are the stewards of the Province’s Crown land and natural resources that reflect the diverse values and interests of all British Columbians. Natural Resource Information and Digital Services (NRIDS) is leading the modernization and transformation of business practices for the NRM through continuous improvement projects, new technology options and operational information management/information technology (IM/IT).


The Lead Data Strategist’s primary focus will be on leading data governance on behalf of the Forestry Digital Services program. This position will establish an enterprise-level data governance, data quality and data-management roadmap, including necessary processes, IT solutions and/or external services. The Lead Data Strategist understands various data storage solutions, including extract, transform and load technologies and can work with the Data Engineering team as needed. The Lead Data Strategist will work collaboratively with data engineers, data scientists and business units to help solve their analytical and integration needs.


Qualifications for this role include:


  • An undergraduate degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent, AND 4 years related experience*; OR
  • A diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent, AND 5 years related experience*; OR
  • A certificate, program completion, or some course work, AND 6 years related experience*; OR
  • An equivalent combination of related education, training AND 7 years related experience


* MUST INCLUDE experience from each of the following:


  • Experience in defining and implementing data lifecycle management practices.
  • Experience in end-to-end data & metadata management principles.
  • Experience influencing & collaborating with digital product teams.
  • Experience discussing complex and new topics in a simple, easy-to-understand way.
  • Experience providing leadership and supervision.
