The opportunity:

Are you considered an expert at managing large application portfolios? If you have the strong management skills, broad technical skills with the experience to drive innovation and automation in a modern software development team apply at the University of Manitoba!

Reporting to the Director, Technology Services the Manager, Application Maintenance leads a team of software developers and systems analysts meeting the University’s need to operate and maintain modern software solutions. You will manage all activities related to the operational support, maintenance and enhancement of modern software systems utilizing standard practices like Agile and DevOps. Responsibilities include motivating staff to excel in their careers, ensuring business needs are met and that work is performed on schedule and within budget.


The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

·        University degree or college diploma in a related discipline, or equivalent experience and education.

·        Minimum of 8 years experience working in an application maintenance or support role including systems analysis, application design, development, testing and release.

·        Minimum of 4 years previous supervisory/managerial experience is required.

·        Demonstrated knowledge and experience with application software, application administration, and database management.

·        Must have a strong knowledge of project management methodologies and experience leading teams to analyze, identify and correct application problems.

·        Must be able to support multiple concurrent activities in a fast-paced environment

·        Strong presentation, communication, negotiation, customer service and organizational skills are required.  

·        Demonstrated staff management, assessment and development skills.

·        Demonstrated workload organization and prioritization skills.

·        Demonstrated skills in setting and attaining goals and objectives.

·        Demonstrated teamwork/collaboration skills.

·        Demonstrated skill in communicating clearly and concisely with a variety of audiences.

·        Demonstrated analytical skills required.
