Responsible for the operations of the CAD Business Unit. This manager role includes providing design enablement support for tools and methodologies, creating, and implementing business solutions, resolving operational problems, identifying efficiencies, and ensuring client activities are in accordance with the company’s objectives. The successful candidate will have the chance to support and guide a dedicated team and collaborate with the broad range of technical staff, scientists and clients working in many technologies. The salary range for this position is $100k to $130k. The position reports to the CEO.

Requirements of the Role include:

  • Demonstrate leadership and set priorities for the CAD Business Unit, consistent with CMC’s Strategic Plan.
  • Manage Business Unit projects, activities, and budget; prepare reports.
  • Provide companies and academics with design tools, IP, and process design kits (PDKs), and methodologies to enable advanced development in microelectronics, photonics, MEMS, quantum, packaging, Edge AI, and Internet of Things (IoT).
  • Develop cloud-based services for CAD clients worldwide and deploy them for multiple CAD tools, PDKs and flows.
  • Deliver training events to accelerate customers’ chip design projects and to upskill and reskill Canada’s workforce.
  • Ensure appropriate engagement with academic and commercial clients in Canada and internationally to achieve growth in use of design services.
  • Strengthen relationships with researchers, partners, and suppliers.
  • Nurture a recognized network of CAD administrators at participating academic institutions.
  • Coach, mentor, and ensure direct reports are adequately resourced to deliver on objectives.
  • Draw on skills and capability from across the corporation to achieve results.
  • Manage a team of 8 to 12 people to support internal IT and external CAD support in a private or public cloud.

Educational and Technical Requirements

  • University degree in business or engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong leadership, management, and supervisory skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others across the organization as well as with senior managers and executives in industry, government, and academia
  • Experience in the management and operation of a complex computer aided design (CAD) software environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
  • Service oriented, detailed oriented, results oriented
  • Some travel required
