JOB FUNCTION:

 

SMI is looking to fill a newly created, permanent, full-time position of Manager, Technology. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Technology & Intelligence, the successful candidate will be accountable for collaboration, infrastructure, technology stack, security, systems, support, and partnerships. This position is responsible for designing, describing, and managing solutions required to solve strategic business problems. The Manager, Technology serves as a member of the management team; provides leadership, coaching and direction to staff; and contributes to the development of corporate strategy and future planning.

 

 

As Manager, Technology YOU Will Be Responsible For:

 

·        Managing the day-to-day operations of the technology team; answers questions; monitors the general workload and production levels.

·        Managing the design, maintenance, testing, and evaluation of all infrastructure systems, including technology stack, LANs, and wireless implementations.

·        Overseeing asset management and participates in the development of department budgets.

·        Managing and collaborating on the development and deployment of enterprise system processes

·        developed internally or through key partnerships.

·        Collaborating with business, technology, and intelligence stakeholders to formulate ideas and recommend innovative solutions.

·        Managing key partnerships and contract negotiation.

·        Ensuring information is safeguarded by directing and managing security initiatives.

·        Mentoring and coaching, looking to continuously upskill knowledge and expertise in researching emerging technologies, new models, vendor solutions, and market opportunities to protect the Company from industry disruptors.

·        Managing approved technology projects through to completion.

·        Providing support in recruiting, work assignments, professional development and performance management of technology staff.

·        Responding to and settles major inquiries and complaints from other departments.

·        Participating in strategic planning for the Company.

·        Acting as a role model who supports a positive organizational culture.

What We Need From YOU!

 

·        Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·        Five or more year’s related experience and working knowledge in the field of technology coupled with three or more years of leadership experience.

·        Strong technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft desktop operating systems, and Microsoft Exchange Server as well as proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development.

·        General insurance industry and marketing knowledge is an added benefit.

·        A good understanding of how underwriting profitability impacts overall corporate results and capital requirements. The ability to understand and interpret financial statements and participate in the business planning process.

·        Ability to visualize, articulate, conceptualize or solve problems by making decisions that are logical and reasonable given the available information.

·        Detail oriented with a commitment to innovation.

·        Project management and coordinating skills with the proven ability to handle multiple tasks and make decisions in a rapidly changing environment. Able to set priorities for self and overall department by creating a focus, eliminating roadblocks and knowing what will help or hinder goal accomplishment. Manages project deadlines and assigns work based on employees’ abilities and competence.

·        Managerial skills including interviewing and selecting employees, providing constructive feedback, motivating, conducting performance reviews, and training and development.

·        Practices a ‘hands-on’ approach when directing employees and empowers employees to be successful through training, developing and coaching. Holds people accountable by ensuring that they meet individual and organizational objectives in an appropriate manner. Monitors employee development plans and ensures alignment with department and company goals.
