Position Description

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Manager, Technology is responsible for liaising with internal and external stakeholders to identify program and project needs and propose technological solutions based on best practices and cutting edge solutions. The Manager, Technology will be responsible for managing a team of staff to support the strategy and execution of the organization’s overall technical needs.


Key Accountabilities

  • Identifies innovation opportunities that will allow Touchstone Institute to further engage with web- and software-based solutions for assessments and educational programming
  • Further develops Touchstone Institute’s online presence, including registration platforms, ecommerce solutions, website development and online databases
  • Fosters strong relationships with internal staff to be able to provide support and solutions for technology-related projects
  • Supervises and provides leadership and support to the Senior Programs Technologist, Senior Systems Technologist and Technology Coordinator
  • Provides advice and direction to senior leadership to further develop Touchstone Institute’s organizational strategy regarding technology
  • Oversees the lifecycle of technological integration processes and takes initiative for process improvement possibilities
  • Manages an end-to-end integrated technology plan for all internal programs and departments
  • Establishes clear project governance structures by identifying project resources and defining roles and responsibilities
  • Liaises with external vendors and consultants on technology-related projects
  • Evaluates internal user needs and system functionality to ensure that online systems meet the goals of the organization
  • Assists with the training and ongoing development of staff responsible for supporting technology
  • Mentors direct reports to identify and support strengths, and to develop areas for performance improvement


Position Requirements

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of project management tools and techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of current web-based and software products, data processing principles and practices and office/project automation principles
  • A deep interest and curiosity about how organizations function and how they could improve their operational results through the use of technology
  • Strong knowledge of privacy legislation in Ontario and Canada (PHIPA and PIPEDA), as it relates to IT systems

  • Strong demonstrable leadership skills with the personal presence to manage internal staff, vendors and consultants
  • Strong conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed critical thinking skills in order to identify key issues and propose solutions
  • Superior verbal communication skills and a proven ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders
  • Advanced written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and informatively
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills in order to work with others to coordinate information
  • Demonstrated organizational and project coordination skills

Abilities

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, with a range of internal staff at all organizational levels
  • Proven ability to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and effectively define problems and resolve issues
  • Demonstrated ability to process multiple types of information, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize
  • Ability to explain complex systems in simple terms


Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years experience managing IT projects
  • Technical background with an understanding of web and software development and HTML/CSS coding
  • Project management certification is an asset
  • Experience with business analytics, process mapping and preparation of business cases and statements of work is an asset
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Technology, or related discipline
