Manufacturing Engineer

The Position

Reporting to the Senior Director, Facilities & Productivity, and working as part of a cross-functional team, the Manufacturing Engineer will work in conjunction with Production and Engineering to develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standard related to sensory insoles production.

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Develop, design, and improve manufacturing processes
  • Time, and waste reduction
  • Elimination of non-value-added steps or processes
  • Improvements in yield, utilization, throughput and capacity
  • Evaluate and implement Lean, 5S, Six Sigma concepts and best-in-class manufacturing techniques that align with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing, planning and optimizing material and personnel workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout
  • Assist in capacity/manufacturing planning by evaluating personnel, equipment and facilities requirements and validate Product cost analysis and labor time studies
  • Lead production teams in kaizen events to brainstorm opportunities for improvements to product manufacturability, cost, quality, manufacturing cycle time and capacity

 

Production Support Activities:

  • Gauge production performance (quality, capacity) – know what is impacting performance
  • Ensure production equipment is calibrated and in proper working order
  • Ensure accurate documentation is in place to govern production activities
  • Ensure production personnel are adequately trained to execute work instructions (WI’s) and SOP’s
  • Identify risk to product or personnel from material quality issues or non-conformities
  • Immediately act on and escalate issues impacting production/operational performance
  • Design, evaluate, install and calibrate production assembly and test equipment
  • Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services
  • Configure and utilize manufacturing software – MES to control workflow and record work progress


Quality

  • Create, implement, and monitor product KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators)
  • Work with QA to analyze product/process data to identify trends or issue impacting performance
  • Investigate failure root cause and initiate corrective action to manufacturing problems arising from performance deficiencies in raw materials, production processes, inspection, and test processes
  • Work with Quality/Supply Chain organizations to develop/implement corrective action plans
  • Train production personnel on assembly processes, testing processes and safety procedures
  • Define all process control and monitoring points within production processes and ensure test systems, documentation, data collection and training are adequate to ensure their proper execution
  • Develop and maintain detailed process flow diagrams, including time standards for assembly and test

 

Change Management

  • Participate in NPI, ECO/DCO reviews to ensure product manufacturability and compliance/compatibility with production processes, quality, capacity, and cost objectives
  • Support NPI, ECO/DCO activities with supporting activities
  • BOM (Bills of Materials) generation and verification
  • Manufacturing/Process Flow Diagrams
  • FMEA and DFX reviews and feedback
  • New or modified product assembly documentation (WI’s and SOP’s)
  • Fixtures, tooling and equipment requirements

 

Additionally, due to the ever-changing and sometimes chaotic environment of an early-stage high-tech company, the Manufacturing Engineer may assume additional responsibilities, as required.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in a high-tech manufacturing environment
  • Manufacturing experience with manual/automated assembly and testing processes
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing techniques and cost analysis capability
  • Six Sigma, Lean, 5S, Continuous Improvement experience a must
  • Strong problem-solving skills and techniques including 8D, DOE
  • Strong hands-on experience working with equipment, tools, electronics, etc.
  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis software (Power BI, LabVIEW, MATLAB)
  • Experience with ISO or similar Quality Management Systems
  • Experience with Manufacturing Quality, Data Analysis, Statistical Process Controls
  • Data and technical presentation skills
  • Start-up experience an asset
  • CAD/CAM Experience an asset (Fusion 360 / SolidWorks)
  • Effective, hard worker with a team player “can-do” approach

 

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday. Overtime may be required periodically, depending on operational needs.
