JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Director of Technology, the Network Administrator maintains and supports the Schools infrastructure network by monitoring the system’s health, recommending and implementing improvements. The incumbent supports users by providing advanced troubleshooting support with workstations, operating system software and network connectivity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide network administration services in the current Windows/Mac environment, including active directory, open directory, user profiles and log in scripts
- Responsible for installation, configuration, and support of network devices such as switches, routers, wireless access points, firewalls, network ports, paging and telecommunication system (PBS) and UPS systems
- Take responsibility for network and cyber security while working closely with outside consultants to implement new solutions and technical issues
- Ensure network backups are done regularly and efficiently and ensure backup tapes are stored off site, including regular monthly backup validations
- Take responsibility with network administration services of client, cloud and on premise server-based systems such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Azure, VMware, Hyper-V, telecommunication, domain server, print server
- Responsible for the maintenance, including upgrades of software and hardware and backup procedures) of all Windows and Mac servers and storage devices (SAN), and UPS devices
- Document all procedures and keep a detailed history of network problems, inventories etc.
- Responsible for creating, maintenance and testing of the disaster recovery plan
- Stay current on network security including antivirus applications, spam and spoofing technologies and make recommendations in dealing with these issues as needed
- Administration of Google Apps services including the scripting of large tasks and the management of calendars, groups and accounts
- Monitor staff and student network accounts to ensure compliance with computer user policies
- Responsible for security and function of wireless system including creation and management of V-Lans, secure guest access and correct deployment of access points
- Assist with the setup and maintenance of desktop hardware, software and associated peripherals
- Assist with audio visual support for school events as needed, including occasional after hours
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- University degree or college diploma in a related field and at least 5 years’ experience in Network or IT Systems Administration
- Exceptional proficiency in Google Workplace Administration
- Technical proficiency and knowledge of LAN/WAN technology and associated software and hardware such as firewalls, routers and switches required
- A proactive team player who is flexible and self-motivated with a “How can I help?” attitude
- Exceptional ability to collaborate, problem solve and provide technical administration assistance
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to interact with students, parents and teachers cheerfully, enthusiastically, courteously, patiently and with discretion both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work independently and on various tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment under occasional tight deadlines

WORKING REQUIREMENTS:
- Due to the nature of this role, the job requires regular on site attendance at TYS Campus, Toronto Ontario
- On-call duties to support in emergency situations
