Optical Systems Engineers at Photonic design and model advanced optical components for our silicon quantum processor, playing a key role in our many design flows. You will navigate the complexity of integrating the latest optics technology into our scalable quantum systems. You will be an expert in the design and simulation of optical systems, comfortable working in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team of engineers, quantum physicists, software designers, and lab technicians.
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO
- Develop low-loss high-performance photonic systems that meet the stringent requirements of integrated quantum photonics
- Create next-generation optical devices for quantum technologies in silicon
- Source required components and work with relevant vendors
- Evaluate designs with numerical simulations and detailed comparison with test data
- Direct and/or conduct experiments as needed to support design efforts
- Work on issues of integration with other sub-systems
- Present results to cross-functional teams
- Oversee and develop manufacturing processes
WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM
- Degree in Physics, Engineering, Engineering Physics (with a specialization in Optics, Quantum Optics, Quantum Computing or Photonics)
- 7 years of industry experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Knowledge of optical design software
- Proficient in optics and electronics lab environments (ex: clean rooms)
- Experience with fiber and/or free-space optical system test and measurement techniques
- Knowledge of materials for optical systems
- Outstanding teamwork skills
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Exceptional candidates will have one or more of:
- Master or Ph.D. with a specialization in Optics, Quantum Optics, Quantum Computing or Photonics
- Experience with CAD tools such as Altium, Lumerical and/or Solidworks
- Experience with coding languages (e.g. MATLAB, Python, etc.)
- Experience effectively troubleshooting complex experimental setups in laboratory environment
- Experience with vacuum or cryogenic systems
- Experience working in a start-up environment

The base annual salary range for this full-time role is between $91,000 to $125,000. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target range for new hire base salary across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside of this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to a candidate's qualifications including relevant education and training, competencies, experience, geographic location, and business needs. Base pay is only one part of the total compensation package. Full time roles are eligible for equity and benefits. Base pay is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
