Research Scientist, Gene Expression

Vancouver, BC

We are seeking a Research Scientist, Gene Expression to join Aspect’s preclinical research and development team to help advance our bioprinted tissue therapeutics. In this role, you will use our microfluidic 3D bioprinting technology to support designing, manufacturing, and testing bioprinted tissues for pre-clinical use and as therapeutics. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with a team of cell biologists, biomaterials experts, and engineers to develop bioprinted tissue therapeutics that could transform the way we develop medicines and treat disease.

What You Will Do

  • Help develop and optimize bioprinted tissue therapeutics using Aspect’s microfluidic bioprinting technology and culture systems to support tissue viability and function in vitro.
  • Process, optimize, and support the long-term maintenance of bioprinted tissue therapeutics using advanced 3D cell culture methods such as spheroids, organoids, and co-cultures.
  • Develop, qualify, and perform in vitro assays to assess the health, function and maturation of 3D tissues, including techniques such as gene expression analysis, cell viability assays, immunostaining, and ELISA.
  • Create SOPs, deliver experimental reports, support patent applications, and present experimental results to key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain clear and rigorous experimental records, including electronic laboratory notebooks.
  • Become an expert user of Aspect’s microfluidic 3D bioprinting technology.

Who You Are

  • Education: PhD or MSc with 2+ years of experience in cell biology, biomedical engineering, biochemistry, or similar program.
  • Professional Experience: Wet lab experience planning, executing, and troubleshooting experiments. Ability to design and execute experiments, conduct technical literature searches, and a full understanding of the research and development process.
  • Tissue Engineering Experience:  Extensive hands-on experience with aseptic technique, mammalian cell culture (primary and/or stem cell-derived), experimental techniques for analyzing cell cultures (qPCR/RT-PCR, ELISA, colorimetric assays, immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy), and data analysis.
  • Beneficial Experience: Working with primary and/or stem-cell derived pancreatic islets or liver hepatocytes, or organoids in 3D culture systems, would be advantageous.
  • Detail-Oriented: You have outstanding attention to detail and experimental and process rigour. You take pride in your work and strive for excellence.
  • Intellectually Curious: You have a burning desire to learn more and aren’t afraid to ask questions.
  • Collaborative: You thrive in a multi-disciplinary team environment and believe that we can get further, faster by working together
