Senior Accountant

Position Summary:


Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Senior Accountant supports the accounting and finance functions in operations, and internal and external reporting. You will have working knowledge of internal controls and US GAAP, and will lead various aspects of the monthly accounting cycle. The Senior Accountant role involves a mix of leadership and the ability to complete initiatives individually. This position will oversee day-to-day finance operations and be responsible for managing the month-end close process along with the Finance Manager.  


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare working papers, reconciliations and journal entries on key and complex accounts (including deferred contract costs, leases, capital assets, goodwill and intangible assets) in accordance with US GAAP
  • Perform bank reconciliations and assist with general treasury management 
  • Prepare month-end accounting working papers, reconciliations and journal entries for payroll and payroll-related accounts
  • Support the payroll function with ad-hoc tasks, as required, and provide backup coverage for payroll processing 
  • Own the month-end close process, working closely with the Finance Manager to ensure a timely month-end close 
  • Perform a monthly variance analysis, including investigating and resolving discrepancies on key accounts
  • Perform FX revaluations, expense reallocations, and other close or consolidating entries as required
  • Prepare monthly consolidated balance sheet and income statement 
  • Prepare or assist with technical accounting analysis, as required
  • Assist with the coordination of the interim and year end audit process, statutory, and tax audits, including for foreign subsidiaries  
  • Assist with annual tax and financial statement filings for all jurisdictions, and preparation of the corporate tax provision
  • Identify, suggest, and implement process and system improvement initiatives 
  • Provide finance support and expertise on cross-functional projects 
  • Participate in process and policy creation, recommending best practices 
  • Assist with ad-hoc tasks as required

  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines 


Education and Experience:

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA), or equivalent, preferred 
  • Minimum 4-5 years of relevant experience in a finance/accounting role, with preference for a combination of both public practice and full cycle accounting experience  
  • Exposure to the payroll function is considered an asset
  • Experience in a high-growth environment, or tech start-up considered an asset
  • Intermediate to advanced level of Excel proficiency
  • Knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards considered an asset
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or similar ERP is an asset

Please view the salary range for this role below. The range listed is our expected compensation for the role. However, the pay offered may vary depending on a variety of factors including qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location.

Annual Salary

$80,000—$90,000 CAD
