The Vital Statistics Agency is responsible through legislation for the following registries of vital events: births, deaths, stillbirths, marriages, change of name, adoptions, wills, and the health status registry. The Agency registers, maintains and records all vital events occurring in British Columbia. The Systems Unit develops and maintains a variety of applications, including several Java-based web applications, an Oracle forms application that supports internal operations, and a B2B ebXML messaging system. The web applications allow service providers across BC to register vital events, offer services, and allow the public to request documents.
The Senior Developer leads the technical design, development, enhancement and maintenance of Agency information systems and services as assigned by the Application Architect. This position also provides operational application-level support for all the Agency’s applications.

Qualifications for this role include:
- Degree in Computer Science or related discipline and 3 years or more recent related experience, OR
- Diploma in Computer Science or related discipline and 4 years or more recent related experience, OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training and 6 years or more recent related experience
“Related experience” refers to actual experience providing technical design, development, maintenance, and support to application systems.
- Development experience with Java/JEE in a work environment
