Senior Software Engineer

Remote (Canada)

Event Temple is seeking a full-time Senior Software Engineer to join our fast-growing team. This will be a remote role open to candidates based in Canada. We are a high-energy, fast-paced environment, and our goal is to take over the hospitality market, from hotels, conference centers, wedding venues, restaurants and more. We’re laser-focused on winning as a team above all else.

Our mission is to create the future of sales and catering to become the dominant player in our industry with 10,000 hotels and venues.

Who we are:

Event Temple is a high growth technology company based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Every single day, venues and hotels around the world manage thousands of meetings and conferences. Event Temple is the software behind the scenes that empowers the teams running those events.

Who you are:

  • You’re passionate about backend engineering work, and your instrument of choice is Ruby.
  • You're comfortable working on large-scale Ruby on Rails applications, and have experience taking them to the next level of performance.
  • You’re no stranger to PostgreSQL and have a deep understanding of how to design and tune queries for performance.
  • You're a mentor, too. You enjoy sharing your knowledge, guiding less experienced team members, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

What will you do?

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be a key player in our product development, contributing to the design, development, and optimization of our backend systems. You will work cross-functionally with product managers, front-end developers, and other stakeholders to ensure the highest levels of system performance, security, and reliability. You can expect to:

  • Embody our values and help shape the future of Event Temple’s culture and product.
  • Work with stakeholders to flesh out requirements and communicate trade-offs in the solution.
  • Learn and innovate on new ideas by continually looking to improve how we work.
  • Participate in code reviews, pair with team members, and mentor engineers.
  • Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
  • Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems.

What skills are required?

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • 5+ years of experience building complex software systems in production environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
  • Strong knowledge of database design and performance tuning with Postgres.
  • Experience taking a project from scoping requirements through to launch.
  • Experience mentoring junior software engineers to improve their skills.

The following are also nice to have bonus experience:

  • Previous experience with Heroku and Amazon Web Services
  • Previous experience utilizing Sidekiq and scaling background job services
  • Previous experience using observability tools like New Relic
