SENIOR SYSTEMS ANALYST – DATABASE ARCHITECT

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Database Analyst function is responsible for managing the exchange of data between applications and for provisioning data to the Reporting/Analytics community. This development team leverages specialized technologies to support integration, interfacing, database management, master data management, reporting and custom development. This portfolio is strategically positioned to lead the delivery of the future state regional Business Intelligence (BI) strategy.

The Senior Database Analyst is responsible for all aspects of data warehouse design, database development, database modelling, database security (RLS) and the scaling of the core integration and development environment. Functionally responsible for development lifecycle planning and execution, including the creation of requirement documents, development and test plans, and documenting and training support staff. Technically responsible for the effective management of the core technologies including Oracle/MS-SQL Databases, Microsoft BI Suite (SSIS, SSRS, PowerBI). Proficient in advanced T-SQL query development and numerous development languages (C#, JSON, XML, PowerShell). The Senior Database Analyst is a hybrid role that spans Business Analysis-Programming-Database and Data Management functions. The Senior Database Analyst acts as a Subject Matter Expert on one or more defined core technologies within the portfolio enabling the development and deployment of standardized regional solutions.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

· Subject matter expertise to assist in definition of work assignments, system configuration, development of standards and issues investigation/escalation.

· Work stream leadership on major projects / or associate PM on small to medium complexity initiatives.

· Leads and facilitates requirements gathering for assigned initiatives.

· Coaching and mentoring of supporting staff.

· Provide consultative support and direction

· Leads the investigation and recommendation of development proposals within a regional context (including development of written proposals, participation in RFP’s, investigation of options/alternatives) for assigned areas of responsibility (ex, Database Management, Master Data Management, Business Intelligence, Report Development, Custom Solution Development).

· Leads development service activities on major projects, including where applicable, managing project resources and work activities for assigned work-streams in accordance with regional project management methodologies.

· Performs development services as required for projects and support work following standard development lifecycle methodologies (e.g., preparation of clearly articulated requirements documents), leveraging regional core technologies.

· Works as part of a regional Change Advisory Board (CAB) to submit/review all technical change requests in accordance with regional policies and procedures.

· Works as part of a regional support team to resolve production critical issues (provide 2nd & 3rd level support) in conjunction with the Regional Service Model/SLA’s – including scheduled and unscheduled activities after hours as required.

· Mentors supporting staff and provides training and work activity review as necessary.

· Responsible for making technical investment recommendations for assigned areas of responsibility.

· Shared responsibility for technology change control as a member of CAB

· Responsible for work assignment prioritization, scheduling, and issues management for assigned areas of responsibility including task oversight for technical analyst staff.

· Shared responsibility for the upkeep and safeguarding of production systems.

MUST- HAVES:

  • Three (3) year University Degree or Community College diploma in Information Technology or equivalent work experience and certifications.
  • Four to six (4-6) years’ experience in supporting integration and/or development services in a complex IT environment
  • Experience in providing wide scale development support services
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective relationships with clients, vendors, and team members
  • Experience creating documents, spreadsheets and presentations using Microsoft Office
  • Extensive knowledge of database development, tabular modelling and row level security (RLS)
  • Knowledge of MS Database scaling - on premise or cloud platforms (Azure, AWS)
  • Understanding of warehouse design and fact/dimension concepts
  • Advanced T-SQL query development (Microsoft SQL, Oracle)
  • Scripting/programming languages (C#, JavaScript/JSON, PowerShell)
  • Experience with Microsoft SSIS, SSAS, SSRS and PowerBI/Tableau

WE VALUE:

  • Healthcare IT and Applications related experience an asset
  • Experience in leading or participating in large-scale technology implementation projects preferred

OTHER CONDITIONS:

  • Minimal exposure to disagreeable conditions typical of an office position: exposed to stress and pressure associated with multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Must be able to travel within the Southwestern Ontario area, when required
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends, when required
