Software Developer in Test – Cochrane, AB

If you’re looking to make an impact, we’re looking for you! We are hiring a full-time Software Developer in Test at the Garmin Canada headquarters in Cochrane, AB. You will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of testing frameworks that the Software Developers rely on every day to ensure they are producing high quality features to our customers.

At Garmin, Software Developers in Test are passionate about our customers and work to continuously improve our products. Essential functions include:

  • Creating automated system tests that interface with embedded systems
  • Converting legacy manual system tests to automated system tests
  • Designing, developing, and maintaining testing pipelines that verify code compilation, execute unit and system tests, and distribute software deliverables
  • Working with product development & technology teams to implement holistic requirements and software verification strategies. 
  • Analyzing and identifying both product success and failure modes, and developing test suites to validate expected functionality in those scenarios
  • Selecting, evaluating, and deploying software quality related infrastructure and process
  • Participating in peer test reviews and collaborating in the design review process
  • Capturing, documenting, and suggesting refinements to software requirements & software test processes
  • Training and mentoring new team members or interns

  • Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in software development.
  • Comfortable developing in high level computer languages such as C/C++ and scripting languages such as Python. 
  • Experience working as part of a development team and familiarity with SDLC.
  • Experience with CI and build systems such as Jenkins, and source control systems such as Git
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide reliable solutions to a variety of complex problems using sound problem-solving techniques
  • Ability to work under general supervision of team leader or mentor
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work well with others across several locations world-wide in a highly collaborative environment
  • Experience working in a team environment

Other desirable qualifications:

  • Experience with Robot Framework, and/or Pytest
  • Experience developing tools, preferably test automation tools.
  • Experience with resource constrained embedded device development
  • Experience developing automated tests applicable to embedded devices
  • Enjoys to code and takes pride in the quality of his code and can mentor others.
